This is the sixth year in a row that we have released a Solo Word project on the first day of January.
However this is the first time that the solo word is half of a pair. The latest solo word is 'NEW' and it follows the release of 'OLD' on 31 October 2021 tcfsr.bandcamp.com/album/old
As usual, the only instruction to artists was the word and a deadline. On this occasion both words were provided at the same time, with different deadlines. Some artists have contributed to both releases and others did one or the other.
Seven solo artists have interpreted the word 'NEW'.
The track by vacant possession, 'first [f]light [dawn of a new sol]', uses audio (both raw and processed) from the recent Mars Perseverance rover landing and associated Ingenuity helicopter flights.
The track by Dental Drill Slips, 'John Cramer's Birth of The Universe, uses the same single sample as his contribution to 'OLD' ('John Cramer's First 760,000 years'), a simulation of the sound of the big bang based on cosmic background radiation for the first 760,000 years of the evolution of the universe by Professor John G. Cramer of the University of Washington, Seattle, USA that is based on data from the Planck Mission of the European Space agency.
