Having not appeared in one of our own compositions for over a quarter of a century, we thought that it was time.
'Voices Distorted' is a collection of four tracks using only our own voices as a sound source.
We each recorded the phrase 'Voices distorted', which can be heard at the start of the first track, 'Triumvirate'. The phrase 'Hi-Fi' was recorded twice before some joker decided to go 'Low-Fi'. Also, the mic was accidentally switched on and some random conversation is included, the bulk of which can be heard at the end of the last track, 'Three'.
'Triumvirate' is a group composition in which we each played a 'voices distorted' sample and were allowed to adjust a maximum of eight parameters, the same eight in each case. In production, a fourth part was added – a 'voices distorted' sample, at one octave lower.
Each member of tourmaline hum has contributed a solo track.
'ThreeSeven' contains 21 instances of the random conversation. No effects were applied other than in production - spatial processing and standard mix/mastering.
'Ternion' is a single instance of 'voices distorted' and a truck load of effects.
'Three' is largely loops of edits from the audio, and effects.
