about

The first album length release by Dental Drill Slips is a reflection on the decay of human endeavour.
The download includes a six page PDF including descriptive text and an illustration of the subject of each composition.
'Tyred Out' is available as a free download via the individual track page.

Baychimo
The S.S. Baychimo was a cargo steamer of the Hudson Bay Company that was abandoned when it became trapped by pack ice in 1931. When the crew returned two days later it had broken free of the ice and drifted away. Sighted on numerous occasions over the ensuing four decades, occasionally becoming stuck in the ice and boarded, Baychimo was last seen in 1968 and is now presumed sunk.

Fountains Dissolve
Founded in 1132, Fountains Abbey is one of the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in England. It was active for four centuries until King Henry VIII ordered the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1539.

Richburg, Not Dead but Sleeping
Richburg in New York State, USA was a petroleum boom town in the 19th century, there were derricks in peoples gardens. At it's peak it was home to 8,000 and boasted it's own opera house. The boom lasted for sixteen years and was over by the start of the 20th century. At the turn of the 21st century the population had dwindled to less than 500.

Deep Inside Bertha Rogers
A superdeep oil-exploratory hole in Washita County, Oklahoma, USA. Reaching a depth of 31,441 feet, after two years of drilling a molten sulphur deposit melted the drill bit and the hole was abandoned. It was the world's deepest hole from 1974 until 1979 when it was surpassed the the Kola Superdeep Borehole in the USSR (now also abandoned, at 40,318 feet).

Berkeley Pit Fog
The Berkeley Pit is a massive former open pit copper mine located in Butte, Montana, USA. The mine operated from 1955 until 1982. The pit is slowly filling with water which presents a serious environmental problem because the water, with dissolved oxygen, allows pyrite and sulphide minerals in the ore and wall rocks to decay, releasing acid about as strong as lemon juice. As a result, the pit is laden with heavy metals and dangerous chemicals that leach from the rock, including copper, arsenic, cadmium, zinc, and sulphuric acid. The water level has risen to within 150 feet of the natural groundwater level. The pit is currently a tourist attraction, with an adjacent gift shop.

Tyred Out
The Continental Rubber Works (Hannover-Limmer) was acquired through a company merger in 1928. Becoming increasingly outdated, the factory was finally closed in 2000 and remains derelict. Plans to develop housing are yet to come to fruition.

The Bowels of Queen Elizabeth
A transatlantic ocean liner and cruise ship, the 'QE2' was operated by Cunard from 1969 to 2008. In the mid-1980s it was the last oil-fired passenger steamship offering a scheduled cross Atlantic service. Currently laid up in Dubai after several failed plans for conversion to a luxury hotel.

Garzweiler Strip
The biggest mining operation on Earth can be found in Germany. At the Garzweiler strip mine they remove the top ground layer to extract lignite. The total mining surface is a staggering 48 km² and several villages had to be moved for the mining operation. It is home to Bagger 288, a 13,500 ton bucket-wheel excavator that is the largest land vehicle in the world. After the mine’s depletion, it will be filled with water from nearby rivers, creating Germany’s second largest lake.

The Grave of Andrea Doria
Launched in 1951 and named after the 16th-century Genoese admiral Andrea Doria, the ocean liner was an icon of post war Italian national pride. Of all Italy's ships at the time, Andrea Doria was the largest, fastest and supposedly safest. On 25 July 1956, the Andrea Doria collided with the MS Stockholm off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts, resulting in it's sinking with the loss of 52 lives.

TCFSR started in the 1980s primarily to release the work of Except Buses, an experimental electronic music group, without compromise to label demands. We lay dormant for almost two decades before being re-activated to promote the work of tourmaline hum, solo projects by its members and a widening range of other artists. ... more
