about

Launched in 1951 and named after the 16th-century Genoese admiral Andrea Doria, the ocean liner was an icon of post war Italian national pride. On 25 July 1956, the Andrea Doria collided with the MS Stockholm off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts, resulting in it's sinking with the loss of 52 lives.
